We’re not really fans of glass-backed phones, so we’re glad the pixel is mostly metal. Still, you’ll probably want a case if you’re a klutz or you hate fingerprints. Luckily, Google lets you design your own Live Case with art, maps, or your own photos for $40.

Powerful specs & smooth performance

The pixel XL runs silky smooth too. Apps open quicker than ever; moving between trang chủ screens is smooth và fast; and content loads & scrolls without any stutters on apps like Twitter và Chrome. Google’s px XL is the android phone we’ve always wanted.
When we first set up the phone, we downloaded đôi mươi plus apps và dozens of songs for offline listening all while using the phone and setting up apps. The pixel didn’t have a single problem through all this bức xúc testing, though it started getting pretty hot. It eventually got so hot that it stalled for a few minutes và we had khổng lồ restart it. But that only happened once. We had a similar heat episode when we first got our standard Pixel, but it also disappeared.
Since then, we’ve had zero problems with it, và it doesn’t run hot during ordinary use. That’s all thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 and the 4GB of RAM. The px comes with 32GB of internal storage, and there’s a 128GB variant as well — sadly, there is no Micro

Pure game android perfection
Android O is coming! In late March, Google unveiled the Developer Preview of the next version of its smartphone operating system. It’s not officially released yet, so consumers are best off sticking khổng lồ the current version of Android, but intrepid enthusiasts looking for the latest and greatest can download and manually install the next-gen software today.
Meanwhile, even with the current apk Nougat, there’s nothing lượt thích pure apk on a px phone. Finally, we see a true marriage of hardware & software on one Google-made device. Assistant is Google’s artificially intelligent bot that can help you with almost anything: search queries, checking your emails, translating text into other languages, and more. One of our favorite features is “My Day,” which you can trigger by saying “good morning,” once you’ve activated Assistant (say “Okay Google” or long-press the trang chủ button). Assistant will then read out your daily schedule, the weather, and more, but the best part is that it will automatically launch a playlist of news podcasts — ours started with NPR’s morning briefing, and continued with Fox News and so on.
It’s one of those features you don’t know you need until you try it.
While at launch you could only talk with Assistant, you can also now type khổng lồ it as well, thanks to the little keyboard icon on the bottom left of the screen. That’s pretty helpful — you’re not always in a position lớn talk to your phone, and being able lớn type means you can still talk to Assistant when that’s the case.
Google has been increasing Assistant’s capabilities since launch — you can now control your smart home appliances with Assistant on the phone, for example, & soon you’ll be able lớn get context from the images you see with Google Lens.

A killer camera
You can’t go wrong with a high-end điện thoại camera these days — they’re all pretty fantastic. The px XL’s 12.3-megapixel camera with larger 1.55 micron pixels is outstanding. It takes splendid shots that rival the Galaxy S8 Edge, LG G6, & i
Phone 7 Plus. It focuses super quickly và processes the automatic HDR+ mode with incredible speed.
We were blown away with the cấp độ of detail in photos. In one close up of a bee on a flower, you can see the detail of its tiny iridescent wings and fuzzy toàn thân when you zoom in on the picture. That’s not something we’ve seen from a lot (any) phones before. We were also favorably impressed with the shots we took of an underground garden at Lowline Labs in NYC.
Like many other android phones, the pixel XL does tend to lớn boost the colors và saturation in images for a more heightened effect. The resulting images are more natural looking than what you’d get with a Galaxy S7 Edge, but less natural than images taken with the i
Phone 7 Plus. A few shots turned out more xanh than they really appeared in reality, but not by too much.
In low-light scenarios, images are more colorful và bright, but a little less sharp than images shot on the i
Phone 7 Plus.

What is the Google px XL?
Many have questioned Google’s reasoning for taking the direction it has with the pixel XL. Last year’s Nexus 6P was a great phone at a great price. The px line isn’t about value, however; the focus here is on sheer quality. The Nexus phones, as a result of their price point, were subject to lớn trade-offs here & there – but this isn’t so with the px handsets.

So, this isn’t a cheap phone then – & in fact, it matches up closely to lớn what you’d pay for an i
Phone 7 or 7 Plus. That’s fine, though, because the px XL is better than an i
Phone 7. And for many it’s better than the Samsung Galaxy S7 too.
Google has finally managed to build its “i
Phone” – and that should make other android phone makers very worried indeed.

Google pixel XL – Design
Yes, it’s true: the Google pixel XL looks lượt thích an i
Phone. Well, sort of. It’s a black (or trắng or blue) slab of metal, with curved edges and a rear that tapers ever so slightly lớn help it sit better in your hand; it has also enabled Google to bởi vì away with the camera bump, which proves a cause of concern for so many.

The sides chamfer slightly, and while the handset is probably a little thicker than you’d expect – especially if you’ve held a moto Z – it’s comfortable to lớn hold. Overall, it isn’t actually that much smaller than an i
Phone 7 Plus, but it nestles perfectly in my hand & feels so much more manageable than Apple’s hulking beast. A ridged lock switch sits on the side, above a clicky volume rocker.

Although there are flashes of inspired design, overall the focus clearly more about functionality than flashiness. While the front is sparse, the back is a tad more interesting. A glass panel covers the camera and stretches down over the circular fingerprint scanner. This gives the rear of the phone a two-tone look that I actually really like. It’s a fingerprint magnet, however: like the Jet black i
Phone 7, it’s seemingly prone to picking up smudges & abrasions from just looking at it.
I still love having the fingerprint sensor on the back in all situations apart from when the phone is flat on a desk. It’s the natural position where my finger rests when I pick up the phone – and, of course, the lack of the physical trang chủ button means it’s really the only place for it lớn go.
Branding is kept to a minimum, which is rare for an android phone. There’s only a “G” logo stencilled onto the back; htc may have helped Google lớn build the phone, but there’s no mention of it anywhere.

To be honest, though, the down-firing speaker included here isn’t too bad, but its position means it is easily blocked if playing a game. A micro
SD thẻ can be found on pretty much every game android phone in 2016, & it’s a shame there isn’t one here.
My main issue with the px XL isn’t the design; it’s the durability of the handset. I’ve been using the phone for a while now and the exterior has already picked up a ding on the corner, even though I haven’t dropped it, & a bevy of scratches lớn the aforementioned glass panel. I’ve had an i
Phone 6S in my pocket for nearly a year and that is yet khổng lồ scratch at all. Will this become a problem? I’ll have to lớn wait & see.

Being the bigger of the two Google phones, the px XL features a larger 5.5-inch display with a 2,650 x 1,440 quad-HD resolution. For those after something smaller, the px boasts a 1080p panel at 5 inches.
But as we already know, resolution doesn’t always guarantee a quality screen. Take the i
Phone 7 Plus, for example. It has only a 1080p screen but support for a wide colour gamut và a top-drawer LCD panel make for a fantastic-looking display.
Thankfully, I’ve been pretty impressed by the display here; it matches the Samsung Galaxy S7 as the best on an app android phone.
Like the Galaxy S7, Google has used an AMOLED panel, so right off the bat you’re looking at much richer colours and deeper blacks. The đen levels on this phone are great; inky & rich, with no grey discolouration.

Phone, you’ll notice how much brighter colours are on the px XL. Apple’s flagships tend lớn render colour more accurately, while Samsung’s are much brighter và vivid. I’d say that the pixel XL sits somewhere in-between. Reds are warm & greens can sometimes look a little fluorescent – but for the most part, the px XL reproduces colours as they should be seen.
Viewing angles are great, too, and although this isn’t the brightest screen I’ve seen – that honour easily goes to the Samsung Galaxy cảnh báo 7 – it can be jacked up high enough khổng lồ make it viewable in all conditions.
Big phones have become the norm now và if you’ve ever used an apk phablet then you’ll feel right at home with the pixel XL.
